Dr. Rivera-Díaz completed her Bachelor of Science in Social Work at the University of Puerto Rico (UPR); and her master’s degree in Social Work with a concentration in Child Services at the University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign. In the year 2004, she pursued her doctoral studies at the UPR Graduate School of Social Work Beatriz Lasalle with a concentration in Administration of Social Policy. By 2012, she completed her post-doctorate in a collaborative program between the aforementioned school, the UPR School of Medicine, and the University of Michigan’s School of Public Health. Dr. Rivera-Díaz has worked as a social worked in private and community projects that dealt with children and families. She was also hired by the “Administración de Servicios de Salud Mental y Contra la Adicción” where she worked as a director and consultant in projects of youth and infant mental health. Her academic works include subject-matters such as: mental health, childhood and social work, as well projects involving HIV/AIDS studies from which she has received several scholarships from: the Council of Social Work Education, the Academy Health/Aetna Minority Scholarship Program and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. She is currently an assistant professor at the UPR Graduate School of Social Work Beatriz Lasalle and has recently received the funds to continue researching the areas of mental health, addictions and HIV at the University of California in Los Angeles.
