Professor Marilina L. Wayland was appointed Chancellor of The Interamerican University of Puerto Rico Metropolitan Campus (IAUPR-MC) in 2004, the largest campus of the IAUPR system with over 10,000 students. Under her leadership significant projects have been initiated. Fifteen programs and 267 courses are offered online; four off campus extension centers has been established in Caguas, Bayamón, Hato Rey, and Orlando, Fl.; and ten research centers have been developed. The new campus mission, approved in 2008, directs the campus toward the development of leaders and entrepreneurs in a global context. Since then, the Internationalization Program has become a campus priority and ten percent of the students come from 40 different countries. Professor Wayland has been a member of the Commissions for Internationalization of Higher Education and Women’s Affairs of the American Council on Education. She is a member of the Advisory Board for Microsoft Education in Latin America and the Caribbean, the Board of Directors for the Contemporary Art Museum, and the Corporation for the Development of the Municipality of Caguas (CODECCA).

Professor Wayland has received numerous recognitions during her career. She completed her Masters of Science in Mathematics at Louisiana State University in 1975. She has taught mathematics at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus, Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, the American University in Washington, D.C., and at the IAUPR-Bayamón Campus. Professor Wayland was also the Chancellor of the IAUPR -Bayamón Campus from 1997 to 2004, and the Ponce Campus from 1989 to 1997. She has been a member of the Puerto Rico EPSCoR State Committee since 2012.
